The research groups of the department is divided into five main group to ease research activities and interdisciplinary research.  The research groups include Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics, Radiation and Health Physics, Communication Physics, Space Physics and Electronic Measurement and Instrumentation.

CONDENSED MATTER PHYSICS AND STATISTICAL PHYSICS RESEARCH GROUP

Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics is the study of crystalline solids, liquids, and irregularly structured materials such as glasses, ceramics, organics, polymers etc. The group carries out world-leading research in a wide range of areas, including positron physics, computational physics, surfaces, modeling of metallic properties, thin film technology, semiconductor devices and materials, nonlinear dynamics and chaos. <more>

HEALTH AND RADIATION PHYSICS RESEARCH GROUP

Health physics is a field of science concerned with radiation physics and radiation biology with the goal of providing technical information and proper techniques regarding the safe use of ionizing radiation. Nuclear instrumentation and measurements, Internal and external dosimetry, Radioactive contamination and Environmental assessment are the major focus of the group.

COMMUNICATION PHYSICS RESEARCH GROUP

Communication physics is one of the applied branches of physics. It deals with various kinds of communication systems; Radiowave propagation, RF microwave, Scintillation, Satellite Technology, Antenna and propagation among others.  


ELECTRONICS

ELECTRONIC MEASUREMENT AND INSTRUMENTATION PHYSICS RESEARCH GROUP

Electronic Measurement and Instrumentation Physics Group leads adventures into the world of Advanced Instrumentation and Electronic Measurement leading to designs such as magnetometer, remote sensors etc. Other researches are conducted in Intelligent and Adaptive Control, Real-Time Embedded Systems, Modeling and Systems Identification with applications in robotics, automation and complex systems design.


SPACE

SPACE PHYSICS RESEARCH GROUP

Space physics is a fundamental part of the study of space weather and has important implications not only to understanding the universe, but also to practical everyday life, including the operation of communications and weather satellites. Space physics is unique from other fields of astrophysics which study similar phenomenon, in that space physics utilizes in-situ measurements from high altitude rockets and spacecraft.


ATM

ATMOSPHERIC PHYSICS RESEARCH GROUP

Atmospheric physics is the application of physics to the study of the atmosphere. Atmospheric physicists attempt to model Earths atmosphere and the atmospheres of the other planets using fluid flow equations, chemical models, radiation balancing, and energy transfer processes in the atmosphere (as well as how these tie in to other systems such as the oceans).  The group currently focuses on the study of atmospheric phenomena and dynamics with a view of understanding climate and climate change.
